As you know, all of our custom leather products have a wide variety of options listed. However, we do occasionally have requests for additional options. We simply can not list every option available for every product (or buying a custom leather Legacy Journal online would take hours instead of minutes!), yet we can acommodate nearly any customization request.
If you have a customization request that isn’t listed below, or would like us to custom create a leather product just for you, simply give us a call at 800-243-0699. Here are a few of our more popular “extra” customizations available for Legacy Journals custom leather products:
- Custom Leather Journal bookmark charms:
- We have a variety of charms readily available to add to your included ribbon bookmark in your custom leather Legacy Journal. In addition, we will happily check our suppliers for additional charm options upon request. In general, charms are available in the following metals:
- Pewter charm: $5.00 +
- Silver charm: $10.00 +
- 14 Kt Gold charm: $25.00+
- Gold or Rhodium plated charm: $5.00+
- There is a variance in charm prices due to the actual charm itself. We have listed the minimum charge for each type of metal above. We charge actual costs on charms (no markup). If you have a particular charm you would like attached to your permanent ribbon bookmark in your custom leather Legacy Journal, please contact us for more information on a specific charm style that you are interested in.
- Monograms: $30.00
- Monogram fees are instead of personalization charges when ordering. Monograms are more detailed work than regular personalization, taking much more time in both the design and carving/tooling process. They look incredible when finished, but, are more involved than regular personalization. When selecting a monogram, we will provide you with a minimum of 3 choices of monogram styles to choose from.
- Gold Leafing: (starting at $25)
- Gold leafing is priced by the level of design that is going to be leafed. Obviously, a very simple line drawing (such as a kanji character or symbol of some sort) is going to take less time and less gold leaf than a very detailed, complex design.
- Please note that the gold leafing fee is in addition to the design fee itself.
- Design Level 1: $ 25
- DesignLevel 2: $ 40
- Design Level 3: $ 55
- Design Level 4: $ 70
- Design Level 5: $ 85
- Design Level 6: $ 100
- Full color designs: (starting at $35)
- As with gold leafing, the investment for a full color design on your custom leather product varies according to the intricacy of the design and the time involved in coloring the design.
- As with the gold leafin, the full color design fee is in addition to the regular design fee for your chosen level of design.
- Design Level 1: $ 35
- Design Level 2: $ 60
- Design Level 3: $ 75
- Design Level 4: $ 90
- Design Level 5: $ 105
- Design Level 6: $ 120
- Additional Personalization Characters (on cover)
- First 15 characters: flat $10 fee
- $0.65/character over 15 characters (spaces are not included as characters, however, punctuation, letters, and numbers, etc. are considered additional characters)
- Rush production priority processing: $30
- Rush priority is occasionally available, although we can not guarantee it is available at all times. Rush priority production availability strictly depends on our current workload. Rush priority is not available from November 1 through December 25. Please contact us to inquire if rush production priority is currently available from January through October.

- Additional pages for our custom leather journals: Some of our customers really enjoy “extra thick” journals with pages added to our standard 200 pages (100 sheets). We are happy to accomodate extra page requests, with the understanding that the “thicker” binding (200 pages is approximately a 1.25″ binding), may make it so that the journal does not lay completely flat on every page. Typically, this happens when the binding is more than 2″ thick, and most of our customers have not reported that it is a significant problem. However, we want to be clear that this could be an issue on particularly thick books.
- Additional pages are priced per set of 4 pages, according to size, as follows:

- 5″ x 6.5″: Additional sheets: per 4 page set: $ 0.33
- 6″ x 9″: Additional sheets: per 4 page set: $ 0.59
- 8″ x 10″: Additional sheets: per 4 page set: $ 0.88
- 9″ x 12″: Additional sheets: per 4 page set: $ 1.32
- 12″ x 15″: Additional sheets: per 4 page set: $ 2.64
- For example: If you would like an additional 100 pages in an 8″ x 10″ journal, the additional pages would cost: $22.00 or 25 sets (total additional pages/4 page sets) x $0.88(cost per set for 8″ x 10″ size).
- If you would like the additional pages lined, that is not a problem. The cost for lining the additional pages will be figured by using our standard pricing of $5/200 lined pages. Therefore, if as in the above example, you wanted the additional 100 pages to be lined (rather than blank), you will add an additional $2.50 to the standard lined page price.
- Scrapbooks & Albums may also have additional pages added, however, the pricing is different for additional scrapbook or album pages. Please contact us if you would like further information on the cost of additional pages for your custom leather scrapbook or custom leather photo album.
- Interior inscription: starting at $35
- We have the ability to include an interior inscription on your custom leather product. In general, interior inscription is a flat $35 fee. The inscription is carved into the leather with one of our decorative fonts. If the inscription is particularly long, the fee may be increased slightly.
- We also have the ability to include any of our designs on the interior of any of our custom leather products. The interior design fee is the same as our regular design fees, based on intricacy of the design and time it will take to carve and detail the design on the interior cover.
- Design Level 1: $ 30
- Design Level 2: $ 65
- Design Level 3: $ 100
- Design Level 4: $ 140
- Design Level 5: $ 200
- Design Level 6: $ 240
Due to some misunderstandings in what the rush processing order priority’s purpose, the following conditions now apply to all orders which request rush processing order priority:
- All rush processing/priority orders for our custom leather products must be shipped by next day, express, or 2 day air.
- All rush processing/priority orders will incur a $30 rush processing fee.
- Rush processing/priority orders may not contain multiple items. (See our note below) If you would like to order multiple items, and need 1 immediately, please specify which item is to be rushed. Additional shipping charges will apply to orders that require multiple shipments.
- We do not accept rush orders for “prototype” products. “Prototype” products are defined as products that are customized beyond our standard customization. This includes creating a new product based on another product that we have available or anything that request major construction-type changes to the product (as an example, if you wanted a custom leather padfolio, but, wanted to add 10 credit card pockets to the standard construction, this would be considered a “prototype” product because it requires changes in our standard construction of the product. However, if you wanted a design or personalization on the cover, that would not be considered a prototype product.)
Each rush processing/priority order will be screened to ensure it meets the above requirements, and that it really is necessary to rush the order. Please understand that this option is strictly designed for people who are purchasing our custom leather products for gifts and may not have found our website early enough to be able to wait our standard processing time. In other words, this option is designed for *special cases only*, and not for every day orders.
We ship every order as quickly as possible, however, our custom leather products are in high demand, and we can not grant rush processing priority to every order. Legacy Journals’ custom leather products are truly created individually, by hand, at the time you order – we do NOT have our custom leather products pre-made, sitting on a shelf waiting for an order….they are actually created just for you, according to your specifications, from start to finish when you order.
We understand that “custom” is a word that is often overused in marketing materials. Be assured, when we say “custom” at Legacy Journals – we really mean custom created – individually. We do not use any machinery to create any of our products. Legacy Journals is staffed by a small group of true artisans and craftsmen who are skilled and highly experienced in the art of leather working and book binding.
